TruPulse 360 Laser Setup for Height Measurements in TerraSync

Answer

  1. Make sure your Bluetooth is turned on for the TruPulse
    • Hold the bottom arrow down for 3 seconds
    • Navigate though the setup menu using the top arrow until you see bt
      • Hit the Fire button
        • Make sure you see bt_on
          •  If not hit the up arrow
          •  Hit Fire to store
  2.  Make a Bluetooth Connection Between the TruPulse and the Mobile Device
    • On the Mobile Device go to Start/Settings
    • Choose the Connections tab (bottom of the screen)
    • Click on the Bluetooth Icon
      1. Select the Mode tab
        • Make sure Turn on Bluetooth is checked
      2. Select the Devices tab
        • Choose Add new Device
          • Make sure the TruPulse is turned on
        • Select your TruPulse Laser and click on Next (at bottom)
        • Enter the Passcode: 1111 and click on Next
        • Check box next to Serial Port and click on Finish
      3. Select the COM Ports tab
        • Choose New Outgoing Port
        • Choose your TruPulse Laser and click on next
        • Choose your COM Port
        • Uncheck Secure Connection and click on Finish
      4. Click on OK and x at the top corner to close out of the Bluetooth Settings
  3.  Setup the TruPulse in TerraSync
    • Open TerraSync and go to the Setup Menu
    • Select the External Sensors Icon
      1.    Click on the Properties tab next to Sensor 1
        • Give it a name (ex. Height)
        • Select the Bluetooth COM Port you created in Step 2
        • Baud Rate = 4800
        • Data Bits = 8
        • Stop Bits = 1
        • Parity = None
        • Prefix String = $PLTIT,HT,
        • Suffix String = ,
        • Data Destination = As Attribute
        • Attribute Name = Whatever (ex. Height)
          • Make sure you remember this for the data dictionary
        • Check box next to your new Sensor 1
  4.  Create a Data Dictionary with a Height Field
    • You can do this either in Pathfinder Office (PFO)or TerraSync
      • PFO
        • Click on Utilities and choose Data Dictionary Editor
        • Edit an existing Data Dictionary or create a new one
        • Create a new feature
        • Add new Attribute
          • Numeric
          • Height (Spell exactly the same as in Step 3b, 10)
          • Put number of decimal places if needed, min, max, and default.
      • TerraSync
        • Data Dictionaries can be created/edited under the File Manager
        • Open TerraSync
        • Click on the Data Tab
        • Select File Manager on the menu underneath the Data Menu
        •  Create your new Height Attribute
  5. Collect Data
    • Open TerraSync
    • Create a new Data File
      • Use the Data Dictionary with the Height Field
      • Collect your feature
        • Tap in the Height attribute
        • Set the Trupulse laser to collect Height measurements
        • Collect Height measurement
          • Fire laser directly at target
          • Fire laser at the top of the target
          • Fire laser at the bottom of the target
        • You will see the Height value pop up in the Attribute field

Notes.  If you need the laser to collect both offsets and height measurements you will have to go through a couple of steps.

  1. Setup both Sensors, Laser and Height, to be looking at the same COM Port.
    • Make sure you only have one box checked under the sensors
    • You will get a COM Port error if not.
  2. Let’s say you are shooting the Offset first and the Height Measurements second
    • External Sensors should be setup with only the Laser Sensor checked.
    • Shoot the Offset
    • Go into the Sensor Setup Menu
      • Uncheck Laser and hit OK
    • Go back into the Sensor Setup Menu
      • Check the box next to Sensor 1 (Or whatever you named it)
      • Click OK
    • Collect your Height measurement
